Islamorada Fishing Etiquette

Offshore Etiquette - Backcountry Etiquette

Offshore

If Captain cancels the trip due to bad weather , your deposit is refunded.

The Boat will supply all operating and fishing licenses, ice, tackle plus rigged and live bait.

"Six Pack" Charter boats are licensed by the United States Coast Guard to take 6 persons only. They could lose their license by taking more than six people, so please don't ask.

A full day fishing charter generally leaves the dock at 7:30 A.M. and returns at 3:30 P.M. A half day charter can be scheduled for morning or afternoon

Bring a hat, comfortable shoes, (no black soled shoes, please) sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, optional long-sleeved shirt, lunch and drinks.

Discuss your preferences and proficiency with the tackle to be used on your charter with the first mate. The first mate is responsible for the boats' tackle and should be happy to help with instruction on its' functionality and the best way to use it to your fishing advantage.

If the first mate is helpful and responsive, a 20% gratuity is customary .He will also filet your catch for you if you wish. Typically there is enough edible fish caught to enjoy a “Cook your Catch” dinner at one of our local restaurants. We would be happy to give restaurant recommendations.

Flats Fishing Etiquette

Guides will supply all appropriate operating and fishing licenses, tackle, bait and ice as needed.

If your Guide cancels the trip due to weather, your deposit is returned.

A full day fishing charter (8 hours) generally leaves the dock at 7:00 A.M. and returns at 3:00 P.M.. A half day charter (4 hrs.) is scheduled for morning or afternoon. Evening tarpon trips are also available certain times of the year. Departure times may vary at certain times of the year and should be discussed with the Guide.

Let your guide know in advance your proficiency with spin, plug, or fly fishing tackle and express your goals for the charter before leaving the dock. This information can help the Guide target the appropriate strategy for your charter and maximize the opportunities for success.

Guides offer instruction on the use of specific tackle and fishing techniques used in the Florida Keys. It is a good idea to discuss this ahead of time with your guide also so he is prepared and can offer instruction at the appropriate time.

Bring hat, comfortable shoes, (no black sole shoes please) sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, optional long sleeve shirt, your lunch and whatever you wish to drink.

It is customary to tip your Guide a gratuity of 20 % of the cost of the trip. This is of course at your discretion.
